Sansei in Maui

Oh Boy…Markel and I went to Maui back in September but I still haven’t posted about it!  Eek…Life really gets away from you.  *sigh *

In Maui, we stayed at the Ritz Carlton and LOVED every single second of it!  Our hotel gave us a free bottle of champagne every night and it was incredibly magical.  Below is one picture =) hehe

For dinner we walked to Sansei, which is not only popular on the island, but happened to be on the resort grounds (score!). =)

Sansei is pretty unassuming, inside and out.  If people hadn’t recommended it, I think we wouldn’t have known to go there.  Based on reviews from Yelp, friends and the menu (there are stars on the popular items)~ Markel and I ordered a feast for two!

I can’t remember everything we ordered, but I’ll at least comment on the things I remembered & loved.

Sansei’s Mango Crab Salad Roll
Sansei’s Asian crab salad, ripe mango, Kula greens and crunchy peanuts wrapped in a mamenori handroll and served with sweet Thai chili vinaigrette

–Everyone raved about this one…and I thought it was just aiite.  Markel really enjoyed it.

Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll
Sashimi grade Hawaiian ahi, arugula and spinach wrapped into a sushi roll, panko-crusted, flash-fried and served with Sansei’s mild soy wasabi butter sauce

–FREAKING AMAZING.  I wished I could eat ten of these.

First Course~

The miso fish underneath…party in your mouth!!  I wanted to lick the plate and get a second order…

This was some kind of buttery fish underneath.  Didn’t love the crispy noodles on top, and I honestly don’t remember what it even was.  So my guess is…pass.  It was a fish of some sort~ but unmemorable.

Tempura Fried Ice Cream $9
Vanilla ice cream wrapped with buttery pound cake, rolled in roasted macadamia nuts, flash-fried and served with chocolate sauce

–SOOOO GOOD.  I wish we could have eaten this first.  I was SO FULL by the time it came out that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I should have.  BUT UNBELIEVABLE~~

Sansei was SUCH a great find and I can’t wait to go back.  I want to re-order all the delicious dishes and then also try some of the other menu items that people raved about but we couldn’t try!!  ANNDD another thing…I found out afterwards that food and drinks are HALF OFF during happy hour =(  Next time…
