Wako Tonkatsu in Koreatown, Los Angeles, CA


oh wako…i cannot believe i haven’t been coming here regularly!  this is my second or third time at wako since 2007 and i am always blown away by their delicious tonkatsu.  the flaky crust of the cutlet and the incredible dipping sauces are out of this world.  you have to come here if you haven’t already!


when you order any of the cutlets, they offer you a bowl of little roasted sesame seeds to crush.  not only is it a fun activity to do while you’re waiting but the smell of sesame seeds is intoxicating and really wets your appetite.  after you’re done crushing the seeds, the waiter comes and pours sauce all over the seeds and you mix again.  their homemade tonkatsu dipping sauce is AMAZING.  soo much better than anything you could buy at the store.

i took 1 order to go and mike ate it like 5-6 hours later and it STILL tasted amazing.  he heated it up in the oven (to keep the crust flaky).


pork cutlet with udon

the udon was good not incredible.  the pork cutlet was way better.  but isn’t that to be expected at a tonkatsu restaurant??  doi, i should have known better. *shaking head *  doesn’t this spread look amazing below??


chicken cutlet (this baby comes with two strips, where as the pork comes with one.  uhhh i say ALWAYS order the chicken)
