Oh man this week has been such a treat~ my mama is back in LA and we have been lucky to get her home cookin each night. I miss her food so much. When I was pregnant all I wanted was her veggie stir fry’s, soups and kimchi.
Chunju Han Il Kwan is a place that I love coming to. The service isn’t great, the menu selection isn’t super long, but the food in FANTASTIC. Seriously so good. I get the boodae jjigae (the everything soup) and it REALLY hits the spot during cold weather. I met a friend there during my winter break and the hot soup on a drizzly day was exactly what we both needed.
If you’re in the mood for comfort food or a hot spicy soup, definitely check this place out. They also have an amazing savory veggie pancake as well.
Chunju Han Il Kwan has a small parking lot and the line to the restaurant can get pretty ridiculous. I recommend getting there early or during an off dinner hour. This joint is pretty small inside as well so I would recommend a party of 2-4 people so you can get seated easily.
the delicious side dishes that come with the soup. i seriously LOVE restaurants that give lots of side dishes. probably because i don’t live with mama chang anymore and really miss it…
there’s boba time next door to the restaurant and i love getting their mango smoothie. SO GOOD. it’s the perfect dessert after a spicy hot soup. xo
The last of my food/treat pics are below. I can’t believe it’s been nearly a month since I was in Hawaii. Miss it already… or at least my taste buds do! Here’s just a little photodump of random treats. Although there were so many meals I forgot to take pics of~ the ones I posted earlier this week were the most memorable. If you ever have a chance to visit Hawaii, let me know! I’d love to send you a detailed list of places to go. =D
Hope ya’ll have a nice weekend!! xo
from my favorite boba place in ala moana mall~ pineapple orange slushie with boba. YUMM
chocolate galore~~~my mama always buys mike’s family boxes of chocolates to send her love.
ice cream and my ever growing belly… *sigh *
homemade deliciousness from mama chang
Markel and I celebrated the first day of the year today by eating a traditional Korean rice cake soup! Since my family is in Hawaii and I wasn’t up for Making it this year~ we drove down to Ktown for this big feast ;P.
Happy new years to all of you!! May you all have a blessed and delicious food filled 2015!
Black Hogg is now serving breakfast!! =) From incredible chef, Eric Park, the breakfast menu is hearty and full of comfort items with a twist. I seriously wish I could have tried the entire menu, but here are the three Markel and I did below.
everything we tried was SOOOO yummy. We can’t wait to go back to try out the Kimchi Fried Rice, French Toast and more of that BACON! xo
–thick slabs of homemade bacon, sunny side up eggs, sourdough toast and SUPER yummy hashbrowns
chickpea avocado toast
–love the crunch of the toast with the perfectly seasoned chickpea/avocado mash. the radishes add a fresh crunch!
Korean Fried Chicken with Scallion Waffles
–SOOOO GOOD. The scallon waffles were fluffy and full of flavor, the chicken was incredibly juicy was a delicious seasoning. Combined with the sweet syrup…*droool *
Captain Crunch Chocolate Chip Cookie for Dessert
(their famous cookie!! Oh Joy did a little piece on them for these amazing treats!)
sometimes i get REALLY strong cravings for Korean food. i think it’s because it was my staple growing up, so as an adult it’s weird not to eat it at least once a day. the korean food on the westside definitely leaves you wanting…but the drive to ktown during the week is just cray.
i tried seoul house of tofu recently and it was ok. the place was super clean, service was friendly and i was seated and served immediately. the side dishes were typical (nothing to rave about) and the bibimbap was decent (again, nothing to rave about).
it did really hit the spot though… so that’s a plus! i’d be interested in coming back and trying a few more dishes before i make my final decision about this place~~ but for now~~ it’s aiite.
okie here are the rest of the hawaii pics. Most of these are at home with my mama (love her cookin)!
this below is chicken soup (yup the whole friggin thing) and my mom calls it “son in law” soup. Where mike has to eat the entire thing for BREAKFAST. hahaha uhhh this is to the guy that never eats breakfast, nevertheless, anything before noon. He always struggles to eat it and when she’s not looking I try to help the poor guy out. But the most endearing part of it all is that my mom loves to feed mike and make sure that he’s gotten enough protein in him. lol
the best shaved ice on the island. *droool * i dream about this place all the time
my mom’s delicious stir fry!
on the cruise for my mama’s bday~~~ mai’ tai’s all around!
adorable mama chang packed us food for our plane ride back to Cali. She made masubi’s and korean california rolls. she loves her family through her cooking and it totally shows. she’s always prepared!!
(i blame the tire around my belly on her~~ it’s always been there and it’s there to stay with this kind of delicious home cookin!)
That’s all folks! no more hawaii pics to share. BUT mike and i are thinking of going to Hawaii for Christmas and NYE this year to spend time with my family~~ so i’m keeping my fingers crossed!! There were so many delicious places to eat that I didn’t get to try yet… can’t wait to go back! xoxo
